Tips To Host A Cute And Magical Tea Party For Little Kids

We’ve all grown up hosting make-believe tea parties with our dolls and toy china teacups—it was one of the best parts of childhood! And having attended real tea parties as adults, we can safely say the charm doesn’t really die down.

But imagine you’re younger again, and you get invited to a real tea party with actual English breakfast tea served in cute little but real china cups, with delicious cakes and other refreshments—what a treat!

Well, you can bring that magic to your little one’s life. Here’s how you can throw a charming tea party for kids.

Consider Hosting It In Your Garden

There’s nothing quite like nature to take your tea party to the next level, so choose a bright sunny day, and take the party outdoors. You can host the party in your garden or backyard, or even on your patio, as long as there’s some fresh air and lots of greenery.

Kids love being outdoors, and hosting the party outside the house will make it more enjoyable for them and less chaotic for you!

Use Real China

If you want the kids to have an authentic experience, you need to let them use real china. Of course, it doesn’t have to be the fancy china you inherited from your great aunt—that would be too risky—instead, we suggest you go thrifting!

Don’t worry about mismatched teacups; that would add color and fun to the party. Go to as many thrift stores as needed and find everything you need at excellent prices. You could even give every kid a teacup as a souvenir!

Make Sure The Decor Is On Point

Having a theme makes it easier to decorate your space, but even if you don’t have a theme, just go with pastel colors, flowers, butterflies, and anything else you find charming.

You can also find golden candle stands and cutlery at the thrift stores to add a royal touch. Don’t forget some pearl strings randomly scattered about with petals to make the space look ultra-fancy and aesthetic.

Encourage A Dress Code

Something we highly suggest is a dress code. It would make things more fun for the kids—they’d feel like they’re in character. You can specify the dress code on the party invitations, something along the lines of:

Girls: Semi-formal dress in pastels or white, a hat, and gloves (optional)

Boys: Button-up shirts, with semi-formal shorts or pants, and suspenders or bowtie (optional)

Keep The Food Simple

Most kids are not very interested in food unless it’s snacks. This works out great for tea parties since most food items served at tea parties are finger foods and desserts! Here’s what you can go with:

  • Chicken sliders
  • Nutella and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
  • Chicken nuggets
  • Assorted cookies
  • Cheese and crackers
  • Mini donuts and macaroons
  • Cake

Of course, there’s no tea party without tea, so we suggest you order Rose tea or perhaps some vanilla chai tea online from us at Red Bud Tea Company. We also have Scottish breakfast tea available that the kids might like.
